BVN Deadline: 26 Million Bank Customers To ‘Lose’ Accounts

26 million bank customers across the country will tomorrow, 31st of October, 2015 have their bank accounts closed due to their failure of not getting a Bank Verification Number (BVN). It will be recalled that the first deadline was extended by few months which will end tomorrow.
Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, while extending the deadline had said no extension would be made, while non-registered bank customers would be barred from accessing their money and will be unable to make any transaction in their account after tomorrow. Let’s see how this will play out.

Poverty Made Me Sell My 2 Weeks Old Baby For N20,000- Calabar Girl

Maria Ekanem, a  20-year-old school drop out from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, said yesterday in Calabar that poverty and lack of where to stay after she gave birth made her sell her two weeks old baby girl for N20,000.
Maria, who was arrested by the police along five other accomplices, said her boyfriend who got her pregnant, asked her to abort the baby but said a doctor helped her  with free antenatal care and food until she gave birth.
This, she added, prompted her to agree to sell the baby when arrangements were made to sell.

Saraki To Face Trial As Appeal Court Gives CCT Go Ahead

Justice Moore Adumen of the Court of Appeal this morning upheld the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Adumen, reading the unanimous verdict of the three man panel, said the tribunal, which docked the Senate President on September 22nd and October 21st was properly constituted.
He said the tribunal led by Danladi Umar could sit with the chairman and one other member. He relied on section 28 of the Interpretation Act in making the decision.
It will be recalled that the Senate President had filed in a case asking the appellate court to stop his trial at the CCT, where he has been charged on 13-counts with false asset declaration.

In an unprecedented move in the history of the customs service in the country, the five DCGs jointly announced their resignation in a terse letter dated October 29, 2015 titled “Voluntary Retirement” addressed to the Chairman of the Customs Board.

Oliseh Calls Martins Back To National Team

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has called Obafemi Martins, back to the National team. Martins name was included in the 23-man list released yesterday for the Super Eagles’ 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Swaziland.

Taxi Driver Who Says He Wants To Clear Russia Of S3x Workers, Rapes And Kill 4 Ladies Who Are Not Prostitutes

A Russian taxi driver has confessed to killing four women and cutting out their s3x organs after he suspected them of being prostitutes. The 39-year-old told police he raped the women before murdering them and mutilating their bodies.
Named only as Alexey N, he told investigators he wanted to 'cleanse' Novosibirsk, the third largest Russian city – of sex workers.
Dubbed the 'taxi driver maniac', he admitted the crimes after DNA evidence linked him to the clothing of his final victim, a 28-year-old mother-of-one who worked as a shop assistant, said police.

Rotimi Amaechi Confirmed As Minister

 The former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, was confirmed as a minister after a dramatic two weeks in the Nigerian Senate. Mr. Amaechi’s screening process by the Senate was postponed three times because of growing dissent by Senators from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) against him.

 Reported earlier Yesterday that Senators belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) threatened to remove support from Senate President Bukola Saraki if he went through with the confirmation process.
Earlier today, PDP Senators staged a dramatic walkout from the Senate Chambers allowing for APC members to confirm Mr. Amaechi.  PDP leaders had demanded that Mr. Amaechi not be confirmed until the
Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges publish their report on his conduct while in office in Rivers State.

The committee had stalled because it claimed Mr. Amaechi has a case in court, and his confirmation would be "subjudice."

China To End One-Child Policy, Allowing Families Two Children

China’s Communist Party brought to an end the decades-old “one-child” policy on Thursday, when leaders announced that all married couples would be allowed to have two children in a bid to reverse the rapid aging of the labor force.

The announcement came after the party’s Central Committee concluded a four-day meeting in a heavily guarded hotel in western Beijing where the committee approved proposals for China’s next five-year development plan, which starts next year.

The Chinese limit of one child for most families, which was enacted to slow population growth, has led to criticism in the past.

Popular Actor Sam Sarpong Who Played Omoni Oboli’s ‘Husband’ In Anchor Baby Commits Suicide

This is really a sad news. According to usmagazine.com, Sam Sarpong who is a British-American actor, who also played a lead role with Nigerian actress, Omoni Oboli in the very popular movie, Anchor Baby has committed suicide. Infact, the suicide happened yesterday but the news broke out this evening.
According to Ed Winter, spokesperson for the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner - Coroner, confirmed the news to the website, saying Sarpong died on Tuesday after jumping off a bridge.
How sad could this be? He was 40 at the time he died. Interestingly, Sam told Hollywood Live in July 2013 how he has made it from being poor to being a rich man through international modelling. He said;

Oil Revenue Drops By N47 Billion

 The oil revenue for the month of September dropped down to N321 billion as compared to the N369 billion collected in August, according to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Anastasia Daniel-Nwaobia.

The drop was attributed to the maintenance of various pipelines in the Niger Delta, as well as the decline in the worldwide price for oil from from $43 per barrel to $42 per barrel.
In response to this situation, the Ministry of Finance has looked to increasing revenue generated through taxation. Mrs. Daniel-Nwaobia noted that the Federal Government is exploring ways of increasing the tax revenue through enlarging the tax net.

Numerous shareholders of Jay-Jay Okocha Group West Africa Limited are mounting a fresh legal effort to enforce the judgment of a Federal High Court in Lagos issued two years ago against former international football star and ex-captain of the Super Eagles, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, and his wife Nkechi.

Justice Ibrahim Buba had ruled that Jay-Jay Okocha and his wife had run the company in a manner that was oppressive to the majority shareholders, restrained the couple from making changes to the board of directors, and directed that the firm’s accounts be audited, among other orders. But the plaintiffs in the case state that the Okochas had simply ignored the court judgment even though they never appealed it. Instead, they have reportedly tried to dribble the petitioners up and down.

Governor Mimiko Unable To Account For Over N1 Trillion, According To Ondo APC

The Ondo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Isaac Kekemeke, accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of failing to account for more than N1 trillion over the past six years.  
Mr. Kekemeke made the accusation during a seminar organized by the women’s wing of the APC which was held in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Mr. Kekemeke also accused Governor Mimiko of impoverishing the people of Ondo State through the imposition of burdensome taxes, primarily upon the State’s poorest residents.  These taxes were intended to recoup the loss of embezzled funds.  The result, according to Mr. Kekemeke, is “we [Ondo State] now have a government that is creating poverty and taxing poverty.”

Orji Uzor Kalu Quits FIFA Presidency Race Because Of Challenges Facing Nigeria

Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, has officially suspended his ambition to run for the FIFA presidency. Mr Orji Kalu, made this known through a press statement signed by his adviser, Kunle Oyewumi on Monday.
According to the statement, Kalu said he has chosen to concentrate on his business even though he was humbled by the wide support his earlier plan to contest enjoyed. It will be recalled that a group had earlier called the former Governor out, saying he should quit and give former foot star, Segun Odegbami a chance, while asking what he knows about football. FIFA Election: The Eight Hopefuls In The Running To Succeed Sepp Blatter

Oyo State: Ajimobi Defeats Ladoja At Tribunal

Former Oyo State Governor Rashidi Ladoja yesterday lost his petition against the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, ending six months of legal tussle.
The governorship election petitions tribunal, sitting in Ibadan, the state capital, held that Ladoja and his party, Accord, “failed woefully” to prove their case.
In a unanimous judgment, tribunal Chairman, Justice Mohammed Mayaki said Ladoja and Accord did not prove their allegations of rigging, electoral malpractices, violence and non-compliance with the Electoral Act, among others.
The tribunal resolved all the issues for determination in Ajimobi’s favour during the delivery of the four-and a half-hour judgment.
Ladoja had urged the tribunal before now to, among others, declare him winner of the election because he polled the highest number of votes.

Kano To Join 2000 Widows, Divorcees In Mass Wedding

The Kano State Hisba Board yesterday said it had commenced preparations for the mass wedding of another batch of 2,000 widows and divorcees in the state. The Director-General of the board, Abba Sufi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.
Mr. Sufi said the preparations followed recent directive by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to the Board to start arrangement for the wedding of another batch of 2,000 couples which will take place before this year runs out.
The Director General however noted that, the new Government decided to sustain the programme in order to check prostitution and other vices in the society.

Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade Nigerian Army deployed at Bitta and Pridang carried out a successful raid on suspected Boko Haram terrorists camps at Bulajilin and Manawashe villages along Bita and Damboa road at the fringes of Sambisa forest on Tuesday and killed 30 Boko Haram terrorists in the process.
The unit also rescued 338 persons that were held captive by the terrorists in their enclaves. The rescued persons which comprised of 8 males, 138 females and children 192, have since been evacuated to Mubi.
One General Purpose Machine Gun, two Dane Guns, 150 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), 6 boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) and 3 cutlasses were retrieved from them. See more photos below.

New Ooni Arrives Ile-Ife

The Owa Obokun and paramount ruler of Ijesaland, Adekunle Aromolaran, who was rumoured to have died has said he is alive, and not only that, but hale and hearty. His alleged death rumour started Monday night when news went to town that he has joined his ancestors. But the traditional ruler in a phone call with Premium Times denied it saying, I am alive.

“Don’t entertain any fear, I am alive, hale and hearty,” he said by phone. “Nothing bad happened to me. How I wish you ride in your car down to my palace and see me to further affirm my statement of being alive and enjoying good health,” he said.

Lamar Odom’s organs have been reported to be so badly damaged after his near-fatal overdose at a Las Vegas brothel that he is on dialysis and may need a kidney transplant, reports claimed last night.
The former NBA star is still battling back to health after waking from a coma following his collapse at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch in Nevada earlier this month.
PEOPLE reports that Khloe Kardashian's estranged husband caught pneumonia which reportedly left permanent scarring on his lungs. The site also claims he is undergoing dialysis while he is too weak to be considered for a kidney transplant. PEOPLE quoted a source as saying: "The pneumonia was a huge setback, and now there's worry about permanent scarring of the lungs.
"His kidneys are still not functioning correctly, but he's nowhere near strong enough to even think of a transplant, so he's on dialysis."

Four separate panels of the Rivers State National/State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal nullified the elections of 20 seats won by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates in the April 11, 2015 elections.
Among those whose elections were nullified was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Owaji Ibani, representing Andoni constituency.
Other constituencies where the PDP candidates’ elections were nullified are Gokana, Eleme, Obio/Akpor I and II, Eleme, Etche II, Opobo/Nkoro, Akukutoru I and II, Asari Toru – and II, Bonny, Tai, ONELGA I, Degema, Khana Iand II, Port Harcourt II and Ikwerre.

Saudi Prince Arrested At Lebanon Airport For Flying In With Drugs

A Saudi prince has been detained at Beirut airport in Lebanon after two tons of an amphetamine drug popular with Syrian rebels was found on a private jet.
Prince Abdel Mohsen Bin Walid Bin Abdulaziz and four other men were held after what was described as the biggest ever drugs bust at the city’s main Rafik Hariri International Airport.
They were allegedly "attempting to smuggle about two tons of Captagon pills and some cocaine", a security source was quoted as saying. The drugs were stuffed into 40 suitcases, according to reports.
It has been a bad few weeks for the Saudi royal family’s minor princes. Prince Majed bin Abdullah was arrested last month in Los Angeles for allegedly trying to force a woman to perform oral sex, though charges were dropped last week.

Sad! 62 Elephants Poisoned So Far In Zimbabwe Reserve

Zimbabwean rangers have found the bodies of 22 more elephants that were poisoned with cyanide in the country’s Hwange national park. The grim discovery brings to 62 the number of elephants poisoned by poachers in this southern Africa country in October.
Rangers found the carcasses of the elephants in Hwange park’s Sinamatella area on Monday morning, spokeswoman for the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority said on Monday.

On the 7th of January 2014, the anti-gay bill was signed into law by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan. The law states that anyone involved in a gay relationship or entering into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union faces up to 14 years in jail.

What were they INKING? Tattoo fans show off their extreme bodywork at international festival in China celebrating the art


Tattoo enthusiasts attended the annual international show in Nanning, China, a three-day event which brings body art aficionados together from all over the world. Contestants posed in underwear as they showed off their colourful designs on various parts of the body, while spectators gathered to take pictures. The festival also gave tattoo artists the chance to exchange skills and work on new designs. In past shows more than 100 top tattoo experts have travelled from different countries, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom to attend the annual event.

  The moment a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck South Asia - killing more than 200 people - has been captured on a live news segment which broadcast the presenter fleeing for his life (pictured). Ariana TV Network, based in Kabul, Afghanistan, was broadcasting a live news segment when the deadly earthquake struck today. Footage from the television station shows the presenter attempting to continue his report as the camera rocks up and down, and his desk and surroundings begin rattling.
