Suleiman Bello Murdered By A Motorcyclist In Kubwa, Abuja (photos)

                             
 A staff of the Nigerian national assembly, Mr Suleiman Bello was repeatedly stabbed by an unknown motorcyclist in Abuja on Thursday. Bello who was driving a Toyota Camry got into a heated argument with a motrcyclist also know as Okada at Bhyanzin Junction.

An eyewitness said that Bello who in the heat of the argument with one Okada man, was trying to dodge another motorcyclist who was on a wrong lane, but in the process, he rammed his vehicle into a pick up van packed by the roadside.

Colombia Legalises Same-Sex Marriage

Colombia has become the fourth South American country to allow same-sex marriage after a ruling by the country's constitutional court. The Catholic country follows Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay in formally recognising the rights of same-sex couples to marry.

"The judges affirmed by a majority that marriage between people of the same sex does not violate constitutional order," presiding Judge Maria Victoria Calle told the court.

"The current definition of the institution of marriage in civil law applies to them in the same way as it does for couples of the same sex," she affirmed.

Oba Of Benin,Oba Erediauwa Goes Home At 93

Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa is no more. The 38th Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo n'Oba n'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa I, died this afternoon after battling an unknown illness.

His death was announced few hours by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe. He was 93.

 Some says The. killer is not a security official, just a young man who killed his elder sister and removed some body parts, its believed he uses them them for. charms or sell to ritualist, so anyone with useful information about him should report to security agents.

Book Haram: NYSC Returns To Gombe State Two Years After

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation exercise has resumed in Gombe state after two years of suspension as a result of security challenges occasioned by the threat of insurgents.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 1,706 batch ‘A’ Corps members deployed to the state are to undergo the exercise in a temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area, pending the clearing of the permanent camp in Malamsidi town of Kwami Local Government Area.

Gombe State Coordinator of NYSC, Malam Ahmed Ikada, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony today commended the State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo for his timely intervention that saw the resumption of orientation camp in the state. He then appealed to the governor to assist the corps members with stipends to add to their monthly allowance.

People With Albinism In Malawi Face 'Total Extinction' - UN

Malawi's estimated 10,000 albinos face "extinction" if they continue to be murdered for their body parts for use in witchcraft, a UN expert has warned. Ikponwosa Ero said that the situation "constitutes an emergency, a crisis disturbing in its proportions".

Her call came after two men received a 17-year jail term for murdering a 21-year-old woman with albinism. She said Malawi police have recorded 65 attacks, abductions and murders of albinos since the end of 2014.

Albinos were targeted because of beliefs that their body parts "can increase wealth, make businesses prosper or facilitate employment", said Ms Ero, the UN human rights council's expert on albinism.

"Even in death, they do not rest in peace as their remains are robbed from graveyards," Ms Ero, an albino herself added.

Adopt Non-Kinetic Warfare Strategy To Finish Boko Haram, Says Pakistani Envoy

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lt.-Gen. Agha Farooq (rtd), has advised Nigeria to adopt non-kinetic warfare strategy in order to consolidate on the military’s gains in the counter-insurgency operations in the northeast.

He gave the advice in Abuja yesterday in a lecture he delivered at the National Defence College, titled “Non-Kinetic Warfare and National Security.”

He explained that the concept of non-kinetic warfare emphasised on exploiting fault lines and inefficiencies in the society with the aim of winning a war without necessarily fighting.

Kenya's Former First Lady Dies In London Hospital

Kenya's former first lady, Lucy Kibaki, has died in a London hospital of an undisclosed illness. Lucy gained notoriety for slapping a cameraman in 2005 when she stormed the offices of a private media group in anger at the way a story about her had been reported.

In a tribute to Mrs Kibaki, President Uhuru Kenyatta praised her for her role in fighting HIV/Aids in Kenya.
Mr Kenyatta succeeded her husband Mwai Kikabi, who governed from 2002 to 2013. May her soul rest in peace.

Photos: Protesters Storm National Assembly, Demands Saraki's Immediate Resignation

A Civil Society Organisation, Citizens United for Peace and Stability, today staged a rally at the National Assembly to demand the immediate resignation of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
The protesters criticized the purchase of exotic Sport Utility Vehicles for the Senators and insisted that the exorbitant jeeps be RETURNED.

They also asked the lawmakers to immediately revisit the 2016 budget and accept the demands of the Presidency.

The protesters, mostly youths, asked Saraki to vacate his seat due to mounting corruption cases preferred against him in the country and internationally; Panama.

Death Of Ekiti Doctors: FRSC Says Over Speeding Caused Accident

The Kaduna State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), today, attributed the accident that claimed the lives of six Ekiti State medical doctors to over speeding.

The Sector Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander, Salisu Galadunci stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna. He said;

 “Twelve medical doctors and a driver were in an 18-seater bus travelling to Sokoto for Nigeria Medical Association (NMA)’s annual conference and had a tyre bust due to over speeding.

“The vehicle overturned with the occupants and six of the doctors died along with the driver while six others survived with various degrees of injuries. Bodies of the victim were evacuated to St. Gerard Hospital for depositing and medical attention, he explained.

A university professor was hacked to death by a gang of attackers while on his way to work in northwestern Bangladesh.
A.F.M. Rezaul Karim Siddique was attacked on his way to the state-run university in the city of Rajshahi, where he taught English.
The attackers used sharp weapons and fled the scene immediately, according to deputy police commissioner Nahidul Islam. ISIS have claimed responsibility for the horrific attack.

The attack was similar to recent killings of atheist bloggers in Muslim-majority Bangladesh by radical Islamists.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi websites. No further details were available.
At least three other professors at Rajshahi University have been killed in recent years, allegedly by Islamist groups. Watch the video below....

Nigeria Needs $700 Million To Upgrade Refineries – Kachikwu

          

 The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, said on Saturday that the Federal Government needed 700 million dollars to upgrade its refineries to produce at maximum capacities.

Only Death Can Stop Me From Supporting Saraki- Melaye

Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west at the national assembly, has pledged absolute loyalty to Senate President Bukola Saraki, saying only death could make him stop supporting the country’s number three citizen.

There has been pressure on Saraki to step down as a result of his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), but Melaye has insisted that the senate president will complete his four years tenure.

Woman kidnapped her two children to get ransom from husband - Rivers State Police

 On Tuesday April 12, Rivers State Police Command released photos of captured suspected criminals in the state. Among the suspects paraded was a woman identified as Mrs. Abigail Brown who kidnapped her two children to get ransom from her husband.

According to a statement issued by the Command on Wednesday, April 13, Mrs Brown and husband’s former driver, identified as ThankGod, connived to kidnap her two children, aged 2 and 10. The suspects then called the husband to pay a ransom in order to secure their release. Brown who had earlier denied the allegation against her, later but later confessed to the crime claiming she that "it was frustration that made her to commit the crime as she had no means of survival."

An Indonesian community has begun celebrations of an annual festival honouring the dead which sees hundreds of centuries-old corpses exhumed, dressed in clothes and put on display.

The preserved bodies of ancestors of the Toraja, an ethnic group from the mountains of South Sulawesi in Indonesia, are lovingly dug up from their graves as part of the ancient Ma'nene festival.

The annual festival, which translates to 'the Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses', then sees the dead groomed, washed, dressed in fashionable new clothes and even sunglasses and paraded round the village.

Man Goes Berserk, Kills Five People Then Guns Down Himself After Finding Out Wife Was About To Divorce Him

A 50-year-old man has gunned down five people. He gunned them down Friday evening before killing himself at home in Appling, Georgia.

Investigators found Wayne Anthony Hawes dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wounds in the early hours of Saturday.

They believe Hawes lost control after finding out his wife was divorcing him, a Columbia County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

Four people died at the scene and one was pronounced dead in the hospital in Augusta.

Oyo State Police Parades British/Nigerian Woman Who Bought 5 Babies For N5m

A 60-year-old woman, Asabi Adebayo, has been arrested by the police in Oyo State for allegedly buying five babies at N5million from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The suspect, who planned to fly the babies abroad for sale, was said to have brought them to an orphanage in Ibadan to obtain a certified police report for them when the bubble burst.

Commissioner of Police Leye Oyebade, who paraded the suspect and the babies yesterday at the Eleyele Police Headquarters, said the woman would have escaped if not for the patriotic behavior of the officials of the orphanage, who reported the matter at the Iyaganku Police Station.

The suspect, who said she hailed from Lagos State, is also a British citizen.

Troops of the 3 Battalion of 22 Task Force Brigade arrested four Boko Haram Ameers, or kingpins, in Rann, Kala-Balge Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State on Friday.

According to military sources, locals tipped off the troops on the terrorists’ whereabouts. The troops subsequently conducted a thorough search of the area and arrested the four kingpins.

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned the controversy-ridden 2016 budget to the National Assembly, pointing out areas of concern in the document and demanding adjustment.

The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Abdurazaq Namdas, (APC-Adamawa State) confirmed this to journalists on Thursday.

“I can confirm to you that we are in possession of the letter from the president identifying grey areas,” Mr. Namdas said.

US Forces Locate Chibok Girls-New York Times

                         

MAROUA, Cameroon — The American and African forces sent to Cameroon to fight Boko Haram have, on several occasions, located clusters of the schoolgirls kidnapped by the militant group two years ago, United States officials said.

Rescue operations have not been carried out, the officials said, because of fears that any ensuing battle with Boko Haram fighters would put the captives at risk, or incite some form of retaliation against hostages still being held in other areas.

American officials said a combination of local intelligence, intercepted communications and drone footage had been used to locate groups of the 276 girls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in the Nigerian town of Chibok two years ago this month. Some of the girls have since been tracked to Nigeria’s sprawling Sambisa Forest.

Man Burnt Himself To Death In Ebonyi After A Misunderstanding With Sister

A middle-aged man in Ufuogene, Umudomi in Onicha Igboeze, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Michael Okoro, has burnt himself to death following a misunderstanding with his sister.

Okoro reportedly drenched his body with kerosene and then set himself on fire.

An eyewitness and resident of the area, Sylvester Eze, said Okoro had misunderstanding with one of his sisters.

“Okoro had a serious misunderstanding with one of his sisters to the extent that he brought out a machete to kill her but the girl was very smart and she escaped the attack.

 “In anger, the man came back, grabbed a keg of kerosene, emptied it on his body and instantly lit a match on himself and started burning,” he said.
