Snake Who Wanted To Eat Up Porcupine, Gets Attacked Instead (Photos)

 Wince-inducing footage appears to show a snake writhing in pain after being pierced with a porcupine's spike after attempting to eat it. A video captures the boa constrictor squirming as dozens of white quills protrude from its skin in Brazil.

The impaled reptile had apparently attempted to eat the porcupine but came off worse when the animal defended itself with its quills.

The snake slithers and thrashes for almost two minutes, while a man records its pain.

Things got even worse for the reptile when the filmmaker's dog bounded over and started barking at it.

Top Maldivian Model Who Was Once Praised By The President For Her Striking Looks Commits Suicide

A model and medical student who appeared on the cover of Vogue and even received praised from the president of her native Maldives for her striking appearance has reportedly committed suicide at a dormitory hostel in Bangladesh.

Raudha Athif, 21, a second-year student at Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi city, was found dead in her room. Her body was recovered by police at around midday after her classmates found her dead.

The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Mahmuda Begum, the superintendent of the female hostel, said the model 'always looked happy,' and added, 'it is hard to believe she would commit suicide'.

Fire Guts Ebonyi Govt. House

The accounts section of the Ebonyi Government House was on Friday gutted by fire which disrupted activities within the complex. No life was reported lost in the fire which started around 9 a.m.

Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. David Umahi on Internal Security, told newsmen that it took the combined efforts of workers and the State Fire Service to put out the fire.

 “The fire outbreak was caused by a faulty electrical connection within the accounts section and the level of damage was minimal.


 “An upholstery and cottons within the section were completely burnt and we would ascertain the true extent of damage when the fire service concludes its task,’’ he said.

Three Kids Abandoned As Husband, Wife Were Sent To Prisons In Lagos

 
Three Kids of the same parents have been abandoned in Mushin as their parents have been arrested and remanded in prison custody in Lagos.

Their parents, Taofik Aremu and his wife, Latifat, were arraigned before a Lagos Task Force and Magistrate court for committing different offences and have been remanded in prison for the past five weeks.

While Taofik was remanded at a prison in Badagry, his wife is cooling her head at Kirikiri prison.

Kemi Olunloyo, Samuel Walson Brought To Court In Prison Uniforms For Bail Hearing (Photos)

Kemi Olonloyo, and Samuel Walson, a publisher of a local tabloid in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were today brought to court in prison uniforms.

Chief Magistrate, Alatuwo Elkanah Fubara, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with credible sureties who reside in Port Harcourt.

Recall that Olunloyo and Walson are facing four count charges of publishing defamatory and malicious story against the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

The matter has been adjourned to May 4, 2017 for hearing.

Nigeria’s Economy Recovering Gradually- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said the nation’s economy which is currently in recession was recovering gradually.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving the outgoing Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Fahad Bin Abdullah Sefyan, in a farewell audience at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Noting that the last farming season was quite good, and the Nigerian economy was gradually reviving, President Buhari said the two countries would have more areas to collaborate in future,” the statement read.

Buhari ‘ll Return To His London Doctors – Presidency

The Presidency on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari has not changed his plan to return to his doctors in London, United Kingdom for follow-ups.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in an interview with journalists.

Shehu said it was not true that Buhari had decided to bring his doctors to Nigeria instead of returning to London.


The presidential spokesman however did not specify when Buhari will return to London.

Former Brazil Speaker Sentenced To 15 Years Imprisonment

A federal court sentenced Brazil's former speaker of the lower house, Eduardo Cunha, to more than 15 years in prison for corruption, making him the highest-profile political conviction yet in the "Operation Car Wash" scandal.

The former politician's defense team said they would appeal the decision but Cunha will remain imprisoned pending appeal.

Cunha, who drove the successful impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff, was forced from his position as speaker in July and arrested in October on accusations he received millions in bribes from the purchase of an oil field in Benin by state-run oil company Petrobras.

Seamus Coleman suffered a horrific leg break in a high tackle from Neil Taylor and Martin O'Neill believes Gareth Bale could have been sent off too. Surplus Of Dollars Hit Nigeria Market

 
 The surplus supply of dollars has again jolted speculators and caused a further increase in value of the Naira.

The foreign exchange market closed on Friday without selling off all the foreign currency released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Fresh 100 million dollars was released at the interbank market to meet customers’ demands, but the dealers were only able to pick about 81.35 million dollars, leaving surplus.

Mr Isaac Okorafor, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, attributed the inability of authorised dealers to pick up the entire offer of the CBN to increasing dollar supply.

In a statement, he said another reason was the current sense of apprehension among dealers who anticipate a further crash in the rate of the dollar.

5 Children Among Syrians Who Died As Boat Sinks Off Turkey

Five children were among 11 Syrians killed after their plastic boat sank off Turkey's Aegean coast on Friday, the Dogan news agency said, the first such reported incident in months on an illegal migrant route meant to have been all but shut down.

Television footage showed rescue workers standing next to bodies washed up on a beach near the coastal town of Kusadasi. The boat, believed to have been carrying 22 Syrian migrants, had been heading for Greece.

A baby in a critical condition was among the 11 people rescued alive, Dogan quoted district governor Muammer Aksoy as saying. He said 11 bodies had been recovered.
Dogan earlier said the authorities had detained two Turks suspected of organizing the voyage after they swam ashore. The news agency initially said 12 people had been killed.

Fans bid farewell to their hero McBride as hundreds take to the streets of Derry for funeral of lost captain

Derry City captain Ryan McBride knew no fear, mourners have been told at his funeral. He put his head where other players would not put their boots and was an inspirational leader, a priest said. The defender was found dead at home on Sunday night, aged 27. The cause of death is unknown.

Dino Melaye Files N5bn Libel Suit Against Saharareporter Over Certificate Scandal

 Senator Dino Melaye will this morning Thursday, file a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, SaharaReporters,Vanguard gathered late yesterday.

Senate Drops Two Non-Career Ambassadorial Nominees, Approves 45 Others

The Senate has rejected the nomination of two non-career ambassadorial nominees presented for legislative approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The rejected nominees are Justice Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo State and Mr Jacob Daodu from Ondo State.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which screened of nominees, presented its report at the plenary on Thursday.

ISIS Claims Responsibility For London Terror Attack

ISIS has today claimed responsibility for the Westminster attack which left four dead and dozens injured.

The terror group said a 'soldier of the Islamic State' carried out the atrocity in which a British-born 'lone-wolf' ploughed a car through crowds near Parliament yesterday afternoon.

A statement by the ISIS news agency Amaq said: 'The perpetrator of the attacks yesterday in front of the British parliament in London is an Islamic State soldier and he carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of the coalition.'
But it gave no name or other details and it was not clear whether the attacker was directly connected to the group.

Sheriff Nursing 2019 Presidential Ambition, Says Makarfi

The sacked Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, has accused the National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, of nursing a presidential ambition.

He alleged that Sheriff was planning to be the presidential candidate of the party in 2019. Makarfi said this was why the former governor of Borno State was unable to deny the allegation when confronted by journalists at his press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State, spoke with journalists in Abuja through the spokesperson for the committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on Tuesday.
Sheriff had said that though he would not vie for the office of the national chairman of the party at its national convention, he however said that only God would determine his 2109 move.

Commissioner Slumps, Dies While Jogging

The Plateau Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Samuel Galadima, slumped and died on Wednesday, while jogging along with Governor Simon Lalong, at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.

The Director of Press Affairs, Mr Emmanuel Nanle, who confirmed the incident said, “Yes, the commissioner slumped while jogging and was rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, where he died.”

Nanle said that the official was gasping for breath by the time he arrived the hospital.
“Doctors tried to stabilise him but could not. We have lost him,” he said.

Former Liverpool Captain And Coach Dies, Aged 83

Former Liverpool captain and coach Ronnie Moran has died at the age of 83. Moran made 379 appearances for Liverpool between 1952 and 1966 and was the club's longest-serving employee when he retired in 1998.

He joined the coaching staff in 1966 and twice filled in as caretaker manager - after Kenny Dalglish's resignation in 1991 and following Graeme Souness' heart surgery in 1992. His son confirmed he had passed away on Wednesday after a short illness.

Moran worked under nine different managers during his time in the dugout. He famously led Liverpool out at Wembley in the 1992 FA Cup Final while caretaker manager while Souness was recovering from surgery.

61 Year Old Man Beheads Lady Seeking Spiritual Cleansing

A 61-year-old landlord, Toafeek Hassan, was, yesterday, arrested with fresh human head and other body parts of a lady he was alleged to have murdered, at Ikoga community in Badagry area of Lagos.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased, a yet-to-be identified lady, approached Hassan, a cleric, for spiritual cleansing in Sango Otta, due to some challenges she was facing.

Vanguard gathered that he was on his way to hand over the needed body parts to a cleric yesterday, when he was accosted by curious people, as the bag was dripping blood.

 When they forcefully took the bag from him, a female head, two wrists and a heart spilled out. They raised alarm, which alerted other residents.

Court Grants Ex-NNPC Boss, Yakubu N300m Bail

A former group managing director of Nigeria’s oil corporation who was accused of fraud has been granted a 300 million Naira bail by an Abuja court.

Andrew Yakubu, the ex-group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was charged with money laundering and fraud when he appeared in court in Abuja on March 16.

The charges relate to the discovery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of $9.8 million and £74,000 in cash at a property in Kaduna.

He was also charged with failing to make a “full disclosure” of his assets and for unlawfully transporting the cash to the city. He pleaded not guilty.

ECOWAS Threatens To Sanction Nigeria Over Dasuki

The Economic Community of West African States has threatened heavy sanctions against Nigeria if it fails to obey the ECOWAS Court order that granted bail to the country’s former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

The court had in its October 2016 judgment also ordered the Federal Government to pay a fine of N15m.

Months after the order, the government has neither released Dasuki nor paid the fine.

In an email correspondence with Sunday Punch, a spokesman for the ECOWAS Court, Sunny Ugoh, stated that judgments of the court of justice were “final and immediately enforceable.”

According to him, decisions of the court are binding on ECOWAS member states, individuals and corporate organisations.

Airlines Emirates has unveiled a new Real-themed aircraft featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Marcelo. The A380 plane, which made its first touchdown at the Adolfo Suarez Airport in Madrid on Thursday, featured huge photographs of this quintet of stars in action emblazoned on the side.
